Is the Meat You Eat Killing You?

What are the facts of meat eating versus a vegetable based diet?

Watch this video to find out the facts on what we eat and how our health is affected. The data may disturb you and perhaps be an important trigger to make some new decisions on your diet.

Doctor and Chef Michael Greger, MD teaches us the Green Facts: Vegetarians have lower rates of obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, kidney disease, gall bladder disease, hemorrhoids, constipation, appendicitis, etc… How much of disease is attributable to meat? — two-thirds of all high blood pressure, one-fourth of heart disease, 40% of cancer, one-third of diabetes, three-fourths of gall bladder disease, one-half of obesity, and almost all of the food poisoning. US Surgeon General says 2 out of 3 Americans die because of what they eat. The US government spends million a year to educate the public about healthy eating (that’s 2 days of advertising budget for McDonald’s). Less than a quarter of medical schools have a single course in nutrition.

  1. Tried vegetarianism – practically vegan for a little while – and it was okay. I also tried other kinds of diets, and the one that I like the most and suits me best is alot of grassfed and wild animal fat, and meat, veggies, and fruits. Amazing how energy and nutrient dense this diet is. Not dissing your lifestyle, just sharing my experience.

  2. I really like the information and delivery style of this video. I normally do not like watching videos, but fascinating, with great stats, and a little wry. I don’t recommend microwaving, as radiation causes cancer, and denatures the cells of microwaved item. I do recommend for Vegan DocChef- Dr. Emoto’s water books- check for yourself the appearance of the microwaved water. Also- plants will die when given microwaved water. Im gluten free, so need more info that ‘Whole wheat’. Great job!!

  13. Dr Greger: Great work. I’m just starting the path toward veganism (at 57). I’ve been mining youtube for 6 months now. I’m getting conflicting information on coconut manna (oil). Yes it’s saturated fat, but some say it’s medium chain fat? and so is good for you along with it’s antifungal properties. What is your opinion?…thx in advance.

  14. Love you, doct, Youa are the answer to my prayers …..I hope god keeps you here for 200 years….

I have been vegetarian for 2.5 years.. vegan for 1 month.. I feel marvelous! My Mom is curious and expressed interest. I told her about you because you are so upbeat and fun. I love how you discuss in perfect detail to get into vegetarianism and not carbitariamism. You are also so enthusiastic and kind.

  18. Dude put his personal cell phone number on Youtube. That’s crazy.

  19. If you watch his other videos he actually demonizes dairy and eggs and not promote them. That makes him vegan I guess.

  20. WOW! I tried the buffalo tempeh sandwich and it was a winner. You’re the best Dr. Greger!
