There are many different methods to help relieve and eliminate stress. Do not let stress define your life and personality. If you use this advice, you can begin your journey to a more stress-free life.

To keep control over a stressful situation, take a breath before you act. Remove yourself from the situation and take some deep breaths while counting to ten. Once your breathing is under control, rejoin the situation. Being able to calm down can help you be rational and productive rather than becoming defensive and frustrated.

A good way to spend some time relieving stress is to do some arts and crafts. Anything creative, like drawing, writing, sculpting, or carving, can let your mind accomplish something without being stressed about the outcome.

Maintain a journal of your stresses. Keeping a journal will allow you to identify the causes of your stress which you can then find ways to avoid. The next time you’re in a similar situation, looking back at what you wrote might help you to work through the dilemma.

If you are under a lot of stress, and it is affecting your mood, take the time to let those around you know that it isn’t their fault. Many times, your significant other, and even your children, think your stress is directly related to them. While it is wise to seek a sympathetic ear when you are stressed, don’t make those close to you suffer from your angst.

Make good plans and preparations for the coming day so that you will have less to do when morning comes. By getting your clothes ready or preparing your lunch the night before, you’ll save time and feel less anxious about your day.

Organizing projects and prioritizing them can really minimize the stress you are faced with at work. If you have a large project, organize it into smaller portions. Doing this will relieve the overwhelming stress of a big project and allow you to focus on the task at hand. Organizing your life and your job will lead to a large reduction in the stress that you experience.

To reduce your stress level on a particularly stressful day, do a special favor for someone else. Buy a present for a child, or help a neighbor with his garden. Surrounding yourself with the ones you love can help to alleviate stress, and improve your mood during the day.

If you have unhealthy ways of coping with stress, make it a point to replace those ways with more effective, healthier habits. If overeating is one way you deal with stress, try exercising instead. Replacing unhealthy coping techniques with healthier ones, will help your body stay strong, so it is better capable of dealing with the stress of day to day life.

During times of stress, pay attention to what parts of your body are tense. The areas most often affected are the lower back, shoulders, fingers and teeth. After you identify the areas that you typically clench, make a conscious effort to relax and stretch those parts of your body whenever you start to feel stressed. Doing so relaxes your mind and body.

Write down your feelings when you feel stressed. There are times when we would rather not talk about what is stressing us, but if you write about it, it can take some of the weight off your shoulders. Use this journal for recording present day battles with stress, and as a future reference in case you need to remind yourself how you maneuvered your way around stressful situations later.
