On the left I’m approximately 170 pounds, and on the right I’m 112.6 pounds.

The photo on the left represents my weight maximum. After that trip I generally tried to eat less and eat healthier, and lost about 10 pounds through doing so over the next three years. I officially began the paleo diet on January 10, 2011, and weighed 156.5 pounds on that day. I followed that diet for 6 months, and I lost 49.3 pounds in that period.

Modus operandi:

- Avoided carbs (including starches) and sugars, entirely where possible
- Mostly ate raw fruit (not blended, no juice), cooked meat, nuts, and eggs. Mostly avoided cheese. Generally followed advice on www.marksdailyapple.com/
- Most frequent foods: bananas, raw almonds, raw pistachios, bacon
- Reduced calories to 800-1000 per day
- To ward off sugar cravings, drank diet soda and chewed gum
- Diet deviation mostly happened in the form of occasional beer or glass of wine
- Exercise was light to moderate: walking, hang gliding, some weight-lifting

If losing weight seems like an unattainable goal, a good first step toward success is educating yourself as much as possible. Due to all the information that is out there concerning weight loss, how can you know how to begin? Here are a few tips on weight loss to get you started.

If you are able to hire a dietitian, even if only for a one time consultation, you can gain valuable insight into how to maintain steady weight loss through a healthy lifestyle. They can provide professional advice with important food choices that will lead to greater well being. It’s essential to eat healthily if you’re planning on losing weight.

If you eat when you are distracted, you are bound to put on the pounds. Failing to notice how much you eat can lead to overindulgence and the accumulation of extra weight. Pay attention to every bit of food you consume at each meal and soon you will see yourself eating much less.

A food diary is an excellent tool to help you lose weight. You don’t have to just count calories. If you write down each item of food that you eat, you will have a better idea of how much you eat during the day. You may be surprised and see that you’re consuming much more than you previously thought. This method also makes you aware of the kinds of foods you often eat. You are less likely to eat additional food if you actually have to see it written down in your food journal.

Running on the beach is a great way to shed weight. In addition to the scenic benefits, the sand on the beach provides a more difficult terrain than running on concrete.

During each meal, pause for a few minutes. It can be difficult for some people to tell when they’ve eaten enough food. Therefore, take a break halfway through your meal and listen to your body. Stop and pause to evaluate if you are still hungry. This can help you regulate how much you eat to an appropriate level.

Evaluate how much food you eat with each meal during the day. For example, the recommended serving size for most poultry, fish and meats is three ounces–approximately the size of a deck of playing cards or your palm. If you watch the food that you consume, you will have a better chance to attain your weight loss goals.

You must avoid any food triggers you may have. You can only do this by controlling the space and environment around you. Limiting contact with foods that trigger you to overeat is essential, so remove unhealthy snacks at home, work and in your car. The chances of you eating these foods are greater when you are near them, even when you aren’t hungry.

A good way to aid you in losing weight is by sucking on ice when you are feeling the temptation to eat unhealthy food. If you are fighting the temptation to eat, try chewing on some ice. Just putting the ice in your mouth might be enough to dispel the urge.

Exercise is the driving force behind your weight loss, but can become boring over time. Switch things up to keep you from getting too burnt out on doing just one activity repeatedly.

If you have been overweight in your life, do not see this as a just another stage of your life. You are now a weight loss expert for life and this is because maintenance is just as important to your journey as the loss itself is.

As you can see from the above article, shedding weight is not that hard. Knowing what to do can make it easier to lose weight quickly. Like anything else, weight loss is all about doing things correctly. This article will push you in the right direction.
